Leon came aboard the Spangler on Oct. 3, 1955 and remained until his transfer to shore duty in Portsmouth, New Hampshire during the Spangler's cruise to WESPAC in '57. The February issue of the Spangler Bulldog mentions that he had just received his transfer, so presumably he remained aboard until the ship reached Japan. Gene Lund says that Albert Arsenault mentioned not long before Arsenault passed away that Leon died in a car accident in California. Unfortunately the date and circumstances are unknown. The crew list for '57 identifies that Leon's home on entering the navy was in Lone Pine, CA. Possibly the accident may have been in that area. Leon is remembered as a nice guy with a ready smile; having folks like him and Bert Pulaski in the ship's office made life a lot easier for the rest of us! - Remembered by his shipmate, Gene Lund
