Bill stepped aboard the Spangler for the first time on Oct. 31, 1943 and traveled with the ship down the Mississippi to the Gulf and continued serving aboard her throughout the war until Nov. 1945, He was born in Sullivan Indiana in 1923 and died March 9, 2005. He enlisted in the navy on June 10, 1943 and was discharged Feb. 12, 1946 as a Shipfitter 1st Class. Bill married Rosemary Carr in March 1947 and they had four children: three daughters and one son.
