Ed was a plank owner aboard the USS Spangler on it's voyage down the Mississippi and served with the ship during the war. Sadly he passed away in 1985. He bacame a pipefitter by trade on leaving the service, but his first love other than his family, was building and flying biplanes. His son, Ken, who resides in Sun City, AZ, says "our family rebuilt several biplanes I remember when I was five flying around Ohio in a Meyers OTW biplane.   We rebuilt two of them from the ground up." You can read more on Ed and his biplane hobby, by scrolling down and read the two news clippings from the 1970's Ken shared with the website.
