James Freeman Alberts
DC3 (1952-1955)


James was the son of a Navy man and the father of four Navy sons (two of them Chiefs) and two of whom served in Desert Storm, the navy had long been an integral part of his life!   He stepped aboard the USS Spangler on May 19, 1952 and remaind until his discharge in early 1955. He and his wife, Imelda, had six sons: Michael, Patrick, Daniel, Timothy, Thomas and Eugene including a daughter, Rebecca.  On returning home to Decorah, IA, following his discharge, James entered the plumbing and heating business, married July 1958.   He was active in the community as a volunteer fireman, boy scout troop leader and a member of service and fraternal organizations, the Sons of Norway, VFW, and the Decorah Elks Lodge.   James was an active hunter and fisherman.  He passed away on January 17, 1981. This rememberance is submitted with love from his son, Eugene Alberts.
